1st Infantry Division, Reenacted
On November 8, 1942 the first american soldiers, including the 2/18 landed on the beaches of Northern Africa near Arzew as a part of Operation Torch. Their objective: Secure the town of Oran. Captain Carl Randall lead the men of the 2nd battalion toward his objective. By November 11, Oran was secure, but it was not to be forcasting of the battle or the war ahead.
The 1st Infantry Division went on to fight in Sicily, on the beaches of Normandy, through France and Germany, across the Seigfried line and into Aachen, broke through the Hurtgen forest, and pushed back against the German forces in the Battle of the Bulge. The 1st Divsion, due in no small part to its achievements in battle, has become known as one of the finest fighting forces in the world.
