  Firebase Emily

Fire Support Base Emily is located 15 miles east of Salem, OR  near Dallas, OR.  It is situated on 112 acres of forest land privately owned by the Phillips Family.  The FSB itself is located on top of Hill 1002.  The properties lush vegetation, deep ravines, red dirt, tall hardwood trees, hornet's nests, snakes, high speed trails and steep hills are as close as it comes to the terrain of the jungles of the central highlands of Vietnam.  Construction of the base began in the spring of 2001, starting with clearing of brush.  From there it was professionally logged and then cleared with a Cat and by hand.  Pain staking detail has gone into every aspect of the base from the 360 degrees of triple strand concertina, over 700 sandbags, 2 292 field antenna, observation tower, underground TOC (tactical Operations Center), field telecommunications, RPG barriers, water point, perimeter 3 man bunkers with over head cover, LP/OPs and Helo pad.  It is quite a living tribute for the men we portray.  The men of D. Company take great pride in our home away from home, and a lot of sweat and blood was shed in its making.  It sits dormant during the winter months, but is used non-stop during the spring and summer months.  The VC/NVA encampment is complete with a bunker complex and VC campsite.  Construction on a VC village will commence next spring.  There is nothing in the world like our beloved Fire Support Base Emily, for that we are proud.  Invitations are always open to Vietnam Vets that are interested in seeing it.  Please contact us at pnwhg@wvi.com and we will be more than happy to take you to the top in our M37 3/4 Dodge.

Emily Helen Cooper

Nov. 20 1927 - Dec. 6 1981

PTA Activist, 40's Pin up Girl, Artist for Walt Disney, close family friend of  Errol Flynn and devoted mother, Emily Philips was one of a kind.  Love and cherished by so many people, Emily was an icon all her own.  Moving to Dallas, Oregon from San Clemente, California in the early 1960's, Emily used every penny form her family inheritance to purchase 112 acres of  forest for her 4 children at a meager price.  Used for quiet hikes and family outings, the property laid silent until 2000 where our  beloved 1SGT Craig Philips, Emily's son realized that it was a Vietnam re-enactors Disney Land.  Emily's memorial is located in a secluded, tranquil and shaded spot in the forest.  It is visited by family and members of  D. Company often to give our thanks and say "Hi Mom".  Her appreciation is always reciprocated by the chimes that always seem to go crazy when visiting her memorial site.  Hard working and well liked, it is a shame that she did not live to see the living tribute to all her devotion and love.  We are so blessed to be able to use this property and it all is due to Emily Helen Cooper Philips.  We love you Emily and miss you dearly, may you rest in peace.
